Friday Night Double Bill: Jenna Watt and Kirsty Law

10.00

CoastWord Nights opens this year with a very special double bill of theatre and music from two of the country's most exciting talents.

Award winning artist Jenna Watt presents: Faslane, a hugely powerful and timely insight into the UK's current nuclear debate. Her Majesty's Naval Base Clyde, or Faslane, situated 40 miles outside Glasgow, is home to the UK's nuclear missile program: Trident.
With her family having worked in Faslane with Trident all her life, and with her friends protesting at the gates, Jenna endeavours to understand her relationship to Trident, the wider nuclear debate and activism.

A rich Scots voice... deceptively simple, beautiful composition.' fROOTS Magazine

The Firth of Forth - that great river mouth at the edge of which Dunbar is situated - has for hundreds of years been a home, a hunting ground, a place to welcome visiting ships or defend ourselves from those less welcome. It has carried cargo, oil, oysters, emigrants, immigrants. It has worked its way into the songs and literature of its people.
But how do we engage with the Firth of Forth in 2016? What kind of relationship do we have with this Urban Seascape now?
Armed with my portable recorder, notebook and shruti box, these are just some of the questions I look forward to exploring in the year to come, seeing what new songs they will inspire.
